CITY CITÉ Atlanta x Marseille : Space Odyssey by Etienne Rey
Digital art installation
50 Upper Alabama St, Atlanta, GA 30303
October 7 @ 8:30 am – 11:30 am
An immersive installation which plunges us into a submerged world of mist and waves of light. Somewhere between immaterial sculpture and architecture, Etienne REY’s installation situates us in a space in which our points of reference become mobile, distances become elastic, and balance precarious. A stroboscopic journey to the heart of light as a material, the crossing of SPACE ODYSSEY, a reference to the Stanley Kubrick film, is a passage, a mental and sensory threshold situated at the meeting point of the physical world and experimentations on perception. Space Odyssey has already been exhibited in France for times, namely in Nantes and Paris.
French visual artist, Etienne Rey lives and works in Marseille. Where visual arts meet architecture, Etienne REY plays on dimensions as a raw material that lends itself to the construction of evolving forms. From monumental installations to the in situ sculptures of the Diffraction and Réflexion series, by way of immaterial systems in which the experience is key, Etienne Rey juggles the components of light, sound and space. His approach follows a single objective: approaching our world from a phenomenological angle in order to reveal mechanisms of organization, interrelatedness and interaction. Thus, he pursues the work of the protagonists of kinetic art. In Etienne Rey”s world, made up of sensations and lights, our gaze is captive, our perception is modified, and our mind heads off to a reinvented space.
This installation is presented at Underground Atlanta by DIGATL, Villa Albertine, ELEVATE and France Atlanta.
