ABOUT GUILLAUME LOPEZ

Guillaume Lopez started playing music at the age of 8 when he took up the saxophone and learned classical music, before moving on to traditional folk music. Today he has earned a reputation for his mastery of wind instruments (fife, flute and bagpipe) and his soulful singing. Thanks to a meaningful encounter with French writer of Occitan origin Alem Surre-Garcia in 2001, Guillaume Lopez developed his very own musical style, a unique world of traditional and improvised sounds without borders, at the confluence of sounds from Spain, Catalonia, Occitania, and the Maghreb. A skilled musician whose goal is to pass on the memory of his ancestors and go beyond established boundaries, Lopez infuses his sensitivity to traditional music into his compositions. In constant search of musical encounters and ways to share with other artists, Lopez is a firm believer in establishing new collaborations and breaking away from comfort to venture into the unknown. The result is a skillful and elaborate mix between local traditions and melodies with a universal appeal.
