Nuclear Workshop: Post- Fukushima Nuclear Renaissance

Where: Marcus Nanotechnology Building (room 1116-1118) at Georgia Tech (345 Ferst Drive – Atlanta, GA 30332).

On October 29, 2012, French and American experts of the nuclear sector will gather to participate in a one-day business workshop open to the public entitled “Nuclear Workshop: Nuclear Renaissance,” at the Marcus Nanotechnology Building (room 1116-1118) at Georgia Tech (345 Ferst Drive, Atlanta, GA 30332).

The French delegation of nuclear industrial experts will come to exchange with their U.S. counterparts and build upon first contacts established in 2011. The conference at Georgia Tech, organized with the support of Southern Company, will primarily focus on new nuclear reactors which are under construction in Vogtle GA.

These 2 units will be the first new generation nuclear reactors to be built in the United States since 1979 and are scheduled to be in service in 2016. As such, U.S. nuclear Renaissance will actually start in Georgia.

TENTATIVE AGENDA

8:00 a.m.: Introductory remarks by Serge Hanoca, Director of Ubifrance and John McIntyre, founding Director of the Georgia Tech CIBER.

8:10 a.m.: Presentation by Tim Echols, Public Service Commissioner, State of Georgia.

8:20 a.m.: Presentation of The Southern Company / Georgia Power Nuclear projects by Cheri Collins, Southern Company’s General Manager and External Affairs Liaison for Nuclear Operations and Development.

8:50 a.m.: SC Procurement policy by Jim Reppel, SC Procurement Manager.

9:10 a.m.: Presentation by Mark Altizer, Southern Nuclear Engineering Programs Manager – Corporate.

9:35 a.m.: Presentation by Cyril Pinel, Nuclear Attaché at the Embassy of France to the United States.

10:00 a.m.: Break.

10:15 a.m.: Presentation by the French Delegation.

11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.: Individual meetings between the French Delegation and Southern company representatives.
