Lecture: “Confessional Memoirs: Exposing the Identity and the Jealousy” by Catherine Millet

French writer, curator, founder, and editor of the prestigious magazine Art Press, Catherine Millet is best known for her memoir The Sexual Life of Catherine M., an international bestseller that has scandalized and intellectually provoked readers around the world.

As part of France-Atlanta 2013, Millet spoke to students from the Creative Writing department at SCAD Atlanta about her experiences as a writer and her work in relation to French literature.

Catherine Millet is a French writer, curator, and founder and editor of the prestigious magazine Art Press, which focuses on modern and contemporary art. She is also the author of eight books of art criticism, including Yves Klein, Le Critique d’art s’expose, and L’Art contemporain en France.

Born in Bois-Colombes, France, she is best known as the author of the 2002 memoir The Sexual Life of Catherine M. In 2008 she published a sequel of sorts called Jour de Souffrance, translated into English in 2009 as Jealousy: The Other Life of Catherine M. In French, she has also written about Dali’s sexual life and contributed to Marie-Dominique Montel and Christopher Jones’ documentary Le Cinéma selon Dali on Dali’s theories about film.

She lives in Paris with her husband, poet and writer Jacques Henric. Their book about Michel Houllebecq has just been published in France.
