Discover the 2020 edition of France-Atlanta

Every fall since 2010, as part of the France-Atlanta initiative, we’ve hosted a dozen events focused on innovation and exchange. France-Atlanta is an annual event series created by the Consulate General of France in Atlanta and Georgia Tech – with the support of partners in the United States and France. This initiative aims to promote and encourage innovation, cooperation and transatlantic relations in order to connect the U.S. Southeast and France.

We are pleased to present the program of the 11th edition of France-Atlanta, which will take place from October 1 to November 10, 2020. In an effort to respect local health guidelines, all the events of this edition will be virtual.

On October 1, 2020, we will kick off the 11th edition with a special event featuring an exchange between the President of Georgia Tech Ángel Cabrera and Jonathan Gilad, the Counselor for Ecology, Sustainable Development, Energy and Transport, Embassy of France in the United States. This event will also feature remarks by the Ambassador of France to the United States Philippe Etienne and Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms.

Traditionally, France-Atlanta events are divided into four domains: science, culture, humanitarian affairs and business. This edition is particularly notable given that it features multiple, transversal events. For example, business leaders will meet with scientific experts and cultural sector stakeholders for an event focused on the local “French Tech” ecosystems and an event on the U.S. Southeast’s creative industries. In addition, during a two-day symposium, panelists from diverse fields will examine the ethical questions raised by artificial intelligence.

Other France-Atlanta 2020 cultural events include an exchange between the executive directors of contemporary art institutions in Atlanta and Toulouse and a series of discussions regarding artistic creation and collaboration between human beings and machines. Finally, members of the MATTERS team will return for a series of workshops centered on their New MississippiS project.

This year’s business events feature discussions on important topics, including three days of webinars organized by France’s foreign trade advisers and a virtual conversation with Mr. Bruce S. Lavin, MD, MPH of the French company BioSerenity.

As for France-Atlanta 2020’s humanitarian affairs events, researchers and public health experts will discuss equitable global access to vaccines in the era of COVID-19. During the Education Series, representatives from local non-governmental organizations will virtually visit classrooms at several colleges, high schools and universities in our region. These meetings will be an opportunity for students to discover the humanitarian work carried out in French-speaking countries as well as how French language skills can be useful in professional pursuits.

France-Atlanta 2020 was made possible thanks to the support of its numerous partners as well as the contributions of the following sponsors: Raymond F. Schinazi & Family Foundation, Jade Fiducial, the French-American Chamber of Commerce – Atlanta, Michelin, TV5Monde and Gravotech.
